Vimeo OTT vs Direct Film Sales: Which Fits Your Release?

Vimeo OTT and a direct film storefront can both charge viewers for video, but they are designed for different businesses. Vimeo OTT is aimed at operating a video service with transactional or subscription content and optional branded apps. A film storefront is a focused destination for selling a finished title to people the filmmaker can reach.

Vimeo OTT is now sold as Vimeo Streaming, and it is the product Vimeo suggests to sellers leaving Vimeo On Demand, which closes on November 20, 2026. If you are deciding where to move a single film, start with our guide on where to move your film from Vimeo On Demand.

Choose Vimeo OTT when you are building a service

Vimeo OTT is the more natural candidate when you have multiple titles or recurring programming, need subscription billing, expect to manage members over time, or have a business case for branded apps.

The key question is whether viewers are subscribing to a continuing promise. One finished film rarely creates that promise by itself.

Choose a direct storefront when the product is the film

A storefront fits when the film is complete, you hold the rights, people already ask where to watch, and you want one branded page with a price, checkout, and stream. It avoids building a catalog business when the immediate job is completing one release.

Tribushare serves this use case. Its current pricing is a yearly plan: Online at $29 a year per public film, Audience at $199 a year with one film included and $29 a year per extra film, or Catalogue at $790 a year with 50 films included (organizations that make a page public by November 20, 2026, the day Vimeo On Demand closes, keep the founder price for life: $149 a year for Audience, $490 a year for Catalogue), plus 10% and $0.50 per sale, with 4K streaming included. A custom domain comes with the Studio plan, priced with us. Card processing fees are included in the per-sale fee; taxes and refunds are separate.

Tribushare does not provide native apps, subscription memberships, or discovery. The filmmaker sends viewers to the page.

If you are leaving Vimeo On Demand

Do not assume Vimeo OTT is the automatic replacement. Export the records and assets available to you, review promises made to buyers, and choose the next product based on the job. Our Vimeo On Demand migration checklist covers the shutdown dates and steps. To move a film to Tribushare, the Vimeo migration page shows what a Vimeo On Demand link imports and what it leaves behind.

If you have a growing catalog and recurring audience, evaluate OTT. If you have a completed film and a reachable audience, evaluate a storefront. If you need placement on third-party services, neither one replaces an aggregator or distributor.

The broader 2026 distribution landscape guide maps those alternatives without treating them as interchangeable platforms.
